Bob Ross Painting, Trash?

I didn't have a TV in the past five years. However, every now and then, I did have access to one. In my new flat, I have got no fast internet connection, a quickly approaching deadline -- and my own telly.

I never consciously remembered him, but a couple of days ago he re-appeared to me: Bob Ross, the painter. Over the years when I had the chance to access a TV, mainly at night, I enjoyed watching his extremely relaxing show The Joy of Painting, his kitschy way of painting landscapes and his soothing voice telling the viewer that now he is painting "pretty little trees" and "happy little clouds". Unfortunately, he died in 1995, but he left hundreds of episodes of his TV show.

Three observations:
1) For some reason, on the English Wikipedia entry on Bob Ross many of the links refer to German websites, even a German discussion board for Bob Ross fans. Maybe Bob Ross exhibits the David Hasselhoff effect, that is, being a famous star (actor and singer) in Germany, thus coining the picture of the USA, without being known in America. Confer to the English Wikipedia entry on David Hasselhoff and its German version.
2) The name of the German TV station currently airing Bob Ross (BR) is Bayern alpha, bearing the same acronym (BR)
3) Wikipedia has it! BR Inc. is planning a Bob Ross video game for Nintendo's next generation video game console.

Bianca Ryan - America's Got Talent - Christmas

I know it's a little bit weird...
It might be the fact that she's from the world's musical capital, it might be due to David Hasselhoff being in the jury, or it might even be the Christmas spirit-- I just can't help acknowledging her talent: An 11-year old girl from Philly won "America's Got Talent" in August-- her name is Bianca Ryan. Check out the following videos (in temporal order) and have a Merry Merry Christmas.

Chromeo, the Hoff, Baden vs. Swabia

Long time no (real) post, but I had to finish my mémoire.
So the Chromeo concert in Berlin (1st concert in Germany ever!) got canceled cause Dave1 had an eye disease. Hope he'll get better, soon -- and that the alternate concert will take place when I'm there.

Some tiny random links accumulated over the last weeks:

• A nice Jazz performance slash pantomime video, implementing the communication character of the Bird's sax involved in a heated debate with Dizzy Gillespie's counterpart (thanks, Steffi)
• German history with American support (thanks, François): David Hasselhoff performing "I've been looking for freedom" on the Berlin wall in 1990. Great guy, great jacket, great scarf, great hair, great song. Totally don't understand his recent decline.
  
• A tiny glimpse on the upcoming posts on German comedians (thanks, Steven): Mathias Richling, one of the better contemporary German comedians, commenting on the German minister of the interior Wolfgang Schäuble and his recent decisions before, during and after the G8 summit (Richling born Swabian, Schäuble a native of Baden, by the way) . Very acid-tongued but definitely funny (unfortunately only in German).
• ...and, of course, the recent hype clip on the web: 5 seconds of dramatic chipmunk

25th Anniversary of Knight Rider - K.I.T.T. for Sale

David Hasselhoff already appeared twice on this blog: 12 months and 5 months ago.
"Looking for freedom" (check out the "Top Kitsch" video below) evokes lots of cosy memories of my childhood, just as does accidentally watching an episode of Knight Rider.
In fact, 2007 will be the 25th anniversary of Knight Rider, which may be why one of the four K.I.T.T. Pontiac Trans Ams used to shoot the series is currently for sale (for 149,995$).

Pferd aufm Flur - Fuzzy Filme

"There's a horse in the hall" in a famous (very tacky) German carneval song by Klaus & Klaus (sic!).

Another line goes:

...wohl zu viele Fuzzyfilme gesehn, wa?...

(freely: ...you must've watched too many fuzzy flics, haven'tya?...)

"fuzzy flics"?!?

I just found out that "fuzzyfilme" refers to cowboy movies from the 1940s featuring a certain Al St. John as Fuzzy Q. Jones. Maybe (just like Bob Ross) he may exhibit what I called "the David Hasselhoff effect" as only on German amazon you can get the Fuzzy Western Collectors DVD Box.
