American Catastrophes

I don't really want to write about the Katrina catastrophe, but I found a disturbing video on the web: This sad interview.

Plus this disturbing animated gif (is it really real or is it from a movie?):

Something less sad: There is going to be a new Blackalicious LP, soon. It's gonna be called The Craft.

Just surfed into your blog so I am not sure if you were serious when asking about the animated gif. It is real and from the footage taken of John F. Kennedy's assassination.

I really wasn't sure. Never saw it before (I only saw single pictures) And I also never watched the Oliver Stone film, so I just wanted to make sure. It's really tough. Thanks.

Ah. ok. Now I get it. I didn't make it clear that I -of course- was aware of the fact that it was the JFK assassination which was shown. What I wasn't sure about, though, was whether there really existed real footage from the assassination or if it was taken from the JFK movie (which I haven't seen).

I was a bit confused with what you asked also. The video is so small that I can't tell if it is from the movie or not, but I do know that there was footage of it, and yes it is very disturbing. I could not even imagine what that must have been like to have actually been there (especially for Jackie).

Thanks r.marie,

I just investigated the background of the animated .gif, and I'll write a separate post (not a comment) in a minute, because it's really fascinating (and sad, of course).

Thanks again for the info. It was interesting to me. Isn't it amazing how a video could be worth that much money. I understand the importance of the video, but what was that 16 million? That just seems crazy to me. I guess people have to make a buck or 16 million of them any way they can. I'm much too easy, I probably would have just handed it over to them. Then I would have thought to myself afterwards "damn, I could have made a buck or two off of that." Naw, probably not. Anyways, OH! and to make the money off of someone elses sorrow, I would feel horrible. I can understand sharing the video because of history with it, even though watching it is disturbing, but people should know. But to instantly become a millionaire BECAUSE of it bothers me (well I guess it wasn't instantly because it took him years to sell it right?) I'm sure there are many out there that would probably disagree with me. I'm just not about money. I'm glad you shared it with me though, even though I felt the need to ramble on about it.

oh I need to correct that, it shouldn't read "but people should know" it should read "because people should know." I mean know what happened to JFK.

My God how slow are you able to be?
"existed any real footage"???
You think Oliver Stone made the Zapruder film???
No wonder the Nazis get away with it time and time again.

thanks for the comment.
nice. some live action...

yeah, i was naive. but who would've thought that all of jfk's appearances were filmed. i mean, it was the 60s.
in germany we only had shoes made out of potatoes back then.

where should i have seen such footage before the internet existed? do they show the zapruder flic on american television every day?

now i do know better. thanks
